Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, E’ Major, showcases his dexterity through his instrumentation, genre-blending, production, and vocal styles. Most notably, his recent single “BOLO” features an Afro-Fusion, Highlife, and RnB sound, with lyrics, piano melody, and rhythmic texture that really elevate the mood.
E’ Major's flirtatious delivery and emotional expression, paired with afro highlife instrumentation composed by renowned producer Masterkraft, create a dynamic experience full of highs in “BOLO.” He explains that the song explores the intense feelings and elation that come with falling for someone—so powerful, it can feel like you’re going crazy. In repeat phrases, E’ Major uses a play on words, and reference to a famous retired Nigerian football player, to call out the transition from once womanizer to someone who is fully infatuated:
'The way you do me, I no know
Dey make me dancey awilo
I know I used to be a player
But I retire like Papilo.'
Another smitten metaphor in the lyrics,
'My honey, you don replace am
You don pin me down for corner
If I injure, na you go heal am
My medicine, my antidote’
Reflects the emotional connection when that person has really gotten you, and provides that medicine like support. Alongside the lyrical imagery, the music video for “BOLO” shot in Lagos, really emphasizes the infectious and flirtatious energy. With the choreography, scenes of beachside play, enjoying drinks, and open expression, you can’t help but feel activated.
