My Chemical Romance have announced a special London event to celebrate the release of the deluxe edition of Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.
The emo icons, who are set to play three sold out shows at Wembley Stadium on July 9, 10, and 11, will reissue their acclaimed 2010 album later this month with expanded editions and bonus material. Ahead of the release, the band will host Battery City Underground: Danger Days – A Release Party at BOXPARK Wembley on July 9.
Although the deluxe edition officially arrives the following day, fans will have the chance to celebrate early at the BL/ind hosted event, which will feature a DJ set from Sean Smith. Staying true to the album's post apocalyptic universe, the night will also include appearances from DJ Kobra Kid and DJ Party Poison.
Tickets are priced at £5 and go on sale at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, with doors opening at 6 p.m. Fans who preorder a copy of Danger Days (Deluxe Edition) before 3 p.m. on Monday, July 6, will receive access to the ticket sale.
The band is also releasing a UK exclusive BL/ind Edition CD of the album, featuring exclusive artwork along with a card wallet and collectible insert.
My Chemical Romance, made up of Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Ray Toro, and Frank Iero, are currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Black Parade with a major world tour.
The band recently announced the launch of @MCRmyofficial on Instagram and TikTok, creating an official online space where fans can gather and receive updates directly from the group.
Alongside a teaser video, they wrote: “Today we are launching @MCRmyofficial on IG and TikTok as a home for our fans to gather.
“The MCRmy has been part of what we do from the beginning and we are very excited that there will be an official shared space for special updates, information, and media for all of you.
“We are humbled to be able to do this and that you all continue to show up.
“See you soon.”
Meanwhile, the band also appears to be developing a new theatrical project with playwright, actor, and filmmaker John Cameron Mitchell.
Earlier this year, the Hedwig and the Angry Inch creator revealed on the Only Child podcast that he had been collaborating with My Chemical Romance on what he described as “a project for theatre.”
“It’s a little secret. It’s not announced yet, but you know I’m gonna give you a little zzzt there. That’s all you’re getting,” Mitchell teased.
Although he declined to reveal further details, explaining that agreements still needed to be finalized, he spoke warmly about working with the band.
“And you know, we still gotta sign stuff, but they’re great people. They’re so luxurious now that they do one [show] a week.”
If the project moves forward, My Chemical Romance would follow Green Day, whose American Idiot album was adapted into a Broadway musical that ran for more than 400 performances between 2010 and 2011 before touring internationally.
The idea of turning The Black Parade into a stage production has been discussed for years. Speaking with Travis Mills on Apple Music 1 in 2021, Gerard Way revealed that the possibility had been explored before, but he felt the timing was not right.
“There were talks very early about some kind of animated musical.
“Then there was talks a decade or so later about a musical. But the person who approached me about this musical there said, ‘Are you ever interested in doing Black Parade as a musical?’
“I was like, ‘To be honest with you, I think it’s too soon,’ at the time. I was like, ‘I don’t think the record has lived long enough.’”
