Moxxy, LA’s fiercest GRRRL band, drops inspirational single ‘Extra’

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — There’s no doubt, the music industry is still an old boy’s club and pulling together a group of talented and powerful women to make music is challenging, but LA’s fiercest GRRRL band, Moxxy, is working to change that.

Lina Lux, Bri and CJ Marie, the members of Moxie, have just released a single, called ‘Extra’ and the message to women and all people is clear —  you are all that, and you are worthy.

“So our song ‘Extra’ is just about recognizing your value and your worth and not settling for anything less,” Bri said. “It’s about just really recognizing all of your hard work and not standing for anyone or anything that would expect you to go for whatever. Some of the lyrics are ‘You ain’t gotta act like that, don’t be extra. I’m a superstar in the movie, you a extra.’ So it’s really just like an encouraging anthem for people to sing and get inspired so they really know who they are and are excited about it.”

Lina, the founder of Moxxy, said she had another band with a group of guys a few years back, but she had a vision of something different.

“I had a vision to create something that was really a female power experience,” Lina said. “Something that could be a full complete stage show where everyone can dance and sing and there’s costume changes, really harkening to the 2000s when girl groups were all about showmanship and creating this whole brand and community and aesthetic that girls and women could be a part of. It was a just a full community and we had those earlier on and I think it was really great for girls to be inspired upon and we just felt like it was time to have another girl-power experience.”

This charismatic project performs their own dynamic choreographies live to original music. Moxxy girls are singers and composers, as well as dancers in various styles from street dance, ethnic dance, to jazz/ballet. Both their freestyle dance and choreographies feature their unique personae, as well as complex shapes, contagious grooves, and captivating footwork. Moxxy girls are their own “backup dancers”, but dance is not in the background at all.

Moxxy's driving, danceable tracks are inspired by pop, EDM, and feature R&B melodies and harmonies, and raps. Moxxy represents fierce, fresh, female energy.

Their stage show honors the roots styles of street dance and also pushes boundaries with new theatrical dance concepts.  Everyone has a unique story! Moxxy's performances share theirs in a celebration of movement and sound, and inspire others to express their own story authentically.

“We’re just bringing something different so I hope everyone is ready,” said CJ Marie. “The music, our stories and the way the visuals are as far as dancing, we’re bringing a lot of underground styles to this that a lot of people aren’t familiar with, so we're definitely bringing something different.”
