Exclusive Interview with Millennium Resorts

SMASH Magazine: What inspired you to become a music artist, and how did your journey begin?
Millennium Resorts: The inspiration probably started from the desire to play drums for me and the guitar with Jonathan. We both thought we’d be good at it and it looked like fun.

SMASH Magazine: Could you describe your creative process when composing and producing music?
Millennium Resorts: So I (Scott) started composing the basics of all the music on an upright acoustic piano. I wrote the "skeleton" of what the album would be, but I was conscious of the order and the flow of the different pieces from the beginning to end. I have written some screenplays and I kind of approached it like you do when you outline a script. Putting together the melodies, chord progressions, the motifs, etc and having kind of 3 ACTS if you will. This took about a year. Then I got together with Jonathan and we started translating it into Ableton. From there it was a collaboration and with so much help from Jonathan, we elevated and developed my outline into the final album.

SMASH Magazine: How would you define your unique musical style, and which artists have influenced you the most?
Millennium Resorts: Edm prog? Ha, I don’t know. Electronic. We like a lot about traditional edm genres but just wanted to take some of those characteristics and make music that’s a little less repetitive and hopefully more engaging. mixing a little shoegaze/dreampop, synthwave, prog, and new wave I Suppose. Artists? Pink Floyd, MBV, M83, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, New Order…I could go on and on.

SMASH Magazine: Your latest album/song has received critical acclaim. Can you tell us about the story or inspiration behind it?
Millennium Resorts: Jonathan and I have been talking about working together for years. I wanted to take my odd compositions and soundscape ideas and mix it with his amazing guitar playing and ear for production.

SMASH Magazine: How do you balance your personal life with the demands of being a music artist?
Millennium Resorts: That’s easy. We have jobs and work for a living for now. Just trying to build a following and hope to play the album live at some point.

SMASH Magazine: In the ever-evolving music industry, how do you stay relevant and adapt to new trends?
Millennium Resorts: The good thing is that we don’t have to worry about that. Not interested in catering to an audience. We make the music we want to and believe there will be fans if they get a chance to hear it. Case in point - we hope to be releasing our next single soon it’s over 12 minutes long ????????‍♂️

SMASH Magazine: Collaborations are a significant part of the music industry. Can you share your experience working with other artists, and what you've learned from these collaborations?
Millennium Resorts: and Jonathan. Wouldn’t exist otherwise.

SMASH Magazine: How do you handle criticism and negative feedback about your music?
Millennium Resorts: The feedback for the album has been pretty positive. If somebody doesn’t like it though that doesn’t bother us. I’m just waiting for the first scathing review that annihilates me as a lyricist. lol most music critics write reviews like they are English majors and focus on words vs. music. but yea, some people don’t appreciate 12 minute tracks.

SMASH Magazine: What role does social media play in promoting your music and connecting with fans?
Millennium Resorts: I keep getting ask this and my answer is I Haven’t figured that out yet. Just concentrating in Spotify really. Have a decent following on IG. Hope to start creating consistent content/videos outside of just music.

SMASH Magazine: What advice would you give to aspiring music artists trying to break into the industry?
Millennium Resorts: I keep getting that question also. I have no advice. When I’m playing for a crowd of a 100 fans in multiple venues, you can ask me that question again. When I’m playing for a crowd of a 100 fans in multiple venues, you can ask me that question again.

SMASH Magazine: Can you tell us about any upcoming projects or plans for the future?
Millennium Resorts: Just going to be hopefully releasing more new tracks this year. If we start building a fan base, then we’ll do it live.

SMASH Magazine: Lastly, what message would you like your fans to take away from your music?
Millennium Resorts: Whatever message they wanna take as long as they keep listening and share with like-minded friends and music fans???? :)
