Jack White Unveils Frozen Charlotte Alongside Strange Origin Story and Homemade Art

Jack White has confirmed that a new album titled Frozen Charlotte is on the way, revealing the project not through a traditional announcement but via an updated description on his official online store.

The listing identifies the record as his seventh solo studio album and describes it as showcasing Jack “at his best; backed by an incredible band… whose collective hand is scorching hot after coming off a tour of universally-acclaimed performances.”

According to the description, the musicians headed directly into the studio after touring and recorded what would become Frozen Charlotte at White’s Third Man Studio in Nashville.

The album contains 13 songs and is said to capture a “raucous, raw, and frenetic energy,” while also drawing heavily from blues influences.

Two vinyl variants, including a blue swirl edition and a creamy crumpled version, have already been listed on the website.

Although White has yet to make a formal announcement across his social media channels, he did take to Instagram to discuss the inspiration behind the album’s artwork.

He told fans the cover originated after a chalkware sailor statue from the 1940s accidentally fell and shattered inside his studio.

He recalled: “I grab a nearby blue skull shaker percussion object and glue it in the head’s place. I paint the body white and suddenly an all new character avatar that I called ‘Frozen Charlotte’ came to life. (sic)"

He later explained that a “frozen Charlotte” is a Victorian era penny doll associated with a traditional folk tale about a young girl who froze to death. White revealed that he scanned and created multiple 3D printed versions of the figure, including a chrome counterpart known as the Frozen Charlatan. He added: “Many versions of the sculpture started to come out of me, different personalities and characters… all of which are in the art show.”

Those artworks are currently being exhibited as part of his These Thoughts May Disappear showcase at Newport Street Gallery in London, which runs until September 13.

Fans first suspected a new album was on the horizon when the single G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs briefly appeared for sale and sold out almost immediately.

Frozen Charlotte follows 2024’s No Name, another release that arrived through an unconventional rollout.

The former White Stripes frontman initially distributed the album on unlabelled white vinyl records slipped into purchases made at Third Man Records locations in Detroit, London and Nashville, as well as through shipments to members of his vinyl subscription club. Blue vinyl editions later surfaced at concert dates before White eventually confirmed the album’s official title and release.
