While the NBA Finals MVP didn't confirm whether he and the rest of New York's starting five were invited, he did say he wasn't there.
Taylor Swift watched game 4 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden in June. During the matchup, the Knicks erased a 29 point deficit to complete the biggest comeback in Finals history. Speaking at Variety’s first Sports & Entertainment Studio last week, Knicks standout Jalen Brunson said he appreciated seeing the global pop star sitting courtside among the evening’s famous guests.
“It’s really cool having her there,” Brunson said before mentioning that Swift also attended an Eastern Conference Finals game in Cleveland. “I feel like her being in Cleveland for courtside one game, obviously, I think Travis and the Kelces are from Ohio, so I get that. And she’s been at the Knicks’ games before.”
He added: “So, I mean, whoever comes, as long as you’re cheering us on, we appreciate it. And I think that was probably a really good game to come to as well.”
Swift supported the Knicks throughout their memorable game 4 comeback while wearing a “Stevie Knicks” T shirt. She sat beside HAIM members Este and Alana Haim, along with actress Mariska Hargitay.
Brunson and the Knicks went on to defeat the Spurs in five games, earning the organization its first NBA championship in 53 years.
Page Six later claimed that Brunson and the other four members of the Knicks’ starting lineup had received invitations to Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding. Brunson did not say whether he was invited, although he confirmed that he was not present at the celebrity filled celebration.
“It’s a great question,” he said. “I found out the same way the rest of the world did. So, I don’t know if it was true or not, but I did not attend.”
Swift and Kelce married at Madison Square Garden on July 3 before a crowd of more than 1,000 guests, with Adam Sandler officiating the ceremony.
