Leigh-Anne has hit back at a social media user who attempted to pit her against former Little Mix bandmate JADE by sharing a screenshot that allegedly compared the streaming figures for their solo albums.
The X user used the figures to claim JADE had succeeded by being a “positive encouraging role model”, while dismissing Leigh-Anne as “a flop that loves drama”.
The singer wasn't prepared to let the comments slide. In a sharp, tongue-in-cheek response, Leigh-Anne explained that she usually ignores trolls because she's “too busy being a mum, a wife and just being iconic”, before taking the opportunity to mock the criticism.
She wrote: “As I sit here in my mansion by the fire, lapping up the fact that I’ve broken records, defied expectations, sold millions of records worldwide… and helped define an entire era of British pop music, I can’t help but smile.”
Leigh-Anne also reminded her critics of her 15-year career, from Little Mix's chart success to her solo ventures, adding: “A successful solo career and still making history. I’m LEGACY status. A daily streaming figure could never define that.”
Her response quickly went viral, with fans applauding her for shutting down the comparison and refusing to get caught up in manufactured drama between the former bandmates. Leigh-Anne released her debut solo album My Ego Told Me To earlier this year, while JADE's THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY! arrived in September.
Both singers have repeatedly expressed support for each other's solo careers, although that hasn't stopped some social media users from attempting to create a rivalry between them.
Leigh-Anne has previously spoken out about the unnecessary drama surrounding the Little Mix members.
Speaking to A Book Of magazine, she said: “Me and the girls are so close. We genuinely love and support one another, so it’s always strange seeing people create competition where there isn’t any. Some people get so intense and say really vile things to each other, and I just don’t understand it."
