Hilary Duff Looks Back on Her Early 2000s Shawl Fashion With Regret

Hilary Duff hopes shawls stay out of fashion for a little longer.

During an interview with Paper magazine published on Monday, the actress and singer was asked about fans recreating her outfits from the Metamorphosis era in the early 2000s, including butterfly clips, when they attend her The Lucky Me Tour concerts.

“Yeah, I have PTSD about how many shawls I wore,” she joked, referring to post-traumatic stress disorder. “I'm gonna have to find a shawl that doesn't remind me of the ones I wore.”

However, the Mature star said she is “super glad” that low-rise jeans have made a comeback.

“I don't think I could wear skin-tight low-rise jeans like I used to, but a baggy low-rise jean, I'm super into. And I kind of like that the fashion choices don't always make sense. It has this air of, we don't care and we're cool,” the 39-year-old continued. “Seeing kids dressed like that makes me so happy, because it takes me back, but I don't actually want to be 17. I don't even want to be 25.”

Hilary also looked back on some of the outfits she wore on stage and in her personal life when she first became a pop star, admitting that some combinations were “a little too mismatched”. She has since brought her love of baggy jeans into her comeback tour wardrobe.

“Remember when baggy started happening again, and it was like, you have to have a tight top with a baggy bottom, or a tight bottom with a baggy top? Now it's baggy on baggy. Let's go,” she laughed. “Honestly, that was a big part of my show. I was like, 'I want baggy jeans, I want a baggy T-shirt.' I want to feel how I feel when I come home after a long day. I want nothing to go in any crevice.”

The Come Clean hitmaker is currently taking The Lucky Me Tour to audiences in Australia.

Following a break from performing, she is scheduled to return to the stage in Vancouver, Canada, on 22 January.

Meanwhile, Hilary's new festive EP, Holiday Things, is now available.
