Katy Perry Channels Anger for First Time on New Track ‘Watch It Burn’ After Split From Orlando Bloom

Katy Perry is preparing to release a new track titled Watch It Burn, a song she says channels anger and emotional struggle after what she describes as a difficult year.

The 41 year old pop star, who split from longtime partner Orlando Bloom in 2025 and shares daughter Daisy Dove with him, explained that the song reflects a period of confronting emotions she has long suppressed.

In a preview of her interview on the Unfamous with Justin Tranter podcast, airing Wednesday (17.06.26), Perry said: “In Watch It Burn, I am wrestling with my darkness.

"But last year was pretty tough.

"I have not given myself permission to be angry my whole life, over things where I should be f****** angry.

"What I’ve done is I’ve pushed it down, but I should be f****** angry.

"I’m allowed to be angry for a f****** moment.

"So instead of falling into ‘woe is me’, I was just like, okay, let’s just feel this f****** pain. Let’s feel this pain. Let’s feel this anger. Let’s move on. Let’s learn from it also.”

While attending the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour - Live from Paris in New York City, Perry also spoke warmly about her relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, saying she is “very in love.”

She said during a post screening Q&A: “Every day is a fantastic journey.

“Every day is a chance to evolve and be a better person… I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life. I am very in love.”

Perry added that the Paris tour footage was filmed shortly after meeting Trudeau, which she said marked a turning point in her life.

“I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite - I fly super high. Sometimes I need to be anchored, so to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now.”

She also reflected on the emotional challenges of 2025, describing it as one of the most difficult periods of her life.

“There were days that were really, really, really hard, and I just kept going because I made a promise to my fans, to my daughter, to myself. I walked through the fire… If you’re walking through hell, you keep going.”

Perry hinted that Watch It Burn represents a shift toward embracing emotions instead of suppressing them, adding: “Your 20s are for emotions, your 30s are for sorting them and your 40s are for f****** not caring about them.”

She concluded by noting that emotional pain is universal, saying: “Sadness does not discriminate, grief does not discriminate, pain does not discriminate… everybody is subjected to it in their own ways.”
