Duncan Sheik has been admitted to hospital and remains in critical but stable condition.
News about the singer and composer’s health was announced through his official Instagram account on Wednesday night, with the message appearing to come from his family.
“We would like to share an update with Duncan’s fans and the public. Duncan is currently receiving medical care and remains in critical but stable condition. Out of respect for Duncan and our family, we will not be sharing any further medical details at this time.”
The message continued: “We kindly ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time and will provide updates when appropriate. Thank you for the continued love and support.”
According to TMZ, Sheik is being treated at a hospital in New York City. He is widely recognised for his Grammy nominated 1996 hit ‘Barely Breathing’.
Sheik moved from songwriting into musical theatre in 2006 with the Broadway production Spring Awakening, which he created alongside Steven Sater. The coming of age rock musical received eight Tony Awards and included early performances from Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele.
His latest musical, Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen, is scheduled to begin its Off Broadway run later this month. A major Off Broadway revival of Spring Awakening is also planned for November.
